T’Nisha Symone Built BLAQUE So Black Women Could Find Their Fitness Community

Let me tell you about T’Nisha Symone.

There’s a trainer from New York who noticed that the fitness apps everyone was using weren’t built with Black bodies, Black trainers, or Black communities in mind — so she built one that was. Her name is T’Nisha Symone, and she’s the founder of BLAQUE.

The Work

T’Nisha is the Founder and CEO of BLAQUE INC., the company behind The BLAQUE Movement App — described in press coverage as the first all-in-one fitness and wellness app designed specifically for the Black community.

She built it with Black fitness professionals at the center, not as an afterthought — a holistic platform that pairs workouts with nutrition, wellness, and cultural context. Her stated mission is to help Black people live abundantly through optimal fitness and wellness.

She’s also built a following as a coach in her own right: ten years in the fitness industry, a background in dance, and a busy one-on-one practice in New York City and virtually, with the kind of programming that leans on strength, mobility, and recovery rather than shortcuts.

The app has earned coverage in TIME, SHAPE, PopSugar, Well+Good, and Bustle — before it had even fully launched, which tells you how badly the market was waiting for something like it.

The Roots

T’Nisha is based in New York City, where BLAQUE is headquartered. She founded the company in 2020, in the same stretch of years when the fitness industry was being forced to reckon with who its products were actually designed for.

Her answer wasn’t a hashtag. It was a product — built alongside the Black trainers and the Black community it was meant to serve.

Why You Should Know Her

Here’s why T’Nisha Symone matters right now: Black women are among the most underserved users in the entire fitness-app market, and the industry keeps building for a default user who isn’t them. T’Nisha didn’t wait for a big company to notice — she built the platform herself, on her own terms.

She’s not just a trainer with an app. She’s a founder building infrastructure for Black wellness.
